Plastic formwork
Plastic Formwork

Plastic is gaining ground, especially for things like footings and foundations. It’s light, easy to clean, and handles moisture well. While it’s not as strong as metal, it’s great for smaller, low-load jobs.

Traditional vs Modular Systems

Formwork setups generally fall into two camps: traditional and modular.

Traditional formwork is usually built on-site using timber or plywood. It’s super flexible and great for odd shapes or one-off designs. But it’s also labour-heavy and a bit slower to work with.

You’ll find formwork pretty much anywhere concrete is being poured. In homes, timber or plastic formwork is often used for footings, slabs, and driveways simple, effective, and cost-friendly.

On commercial sites, you’ll usually see modular systems made from steel or aluminium. They speed things up and can be reused between pours. For tall buildings, climbing or jump forms make it easier to build vertical sections safely and efficiently.

Infrastructure projects like tunnels, bridges, and retaining walls need more complex setups. These often require custom or hybrid systems that are engineered to handle heavy loads and tricky shapes. That’s where real expertise comes into play.
